Friendship Estates started composting in the year 2000. Initially, we concentrated on composting waste from our farming and feed manufacturing business – the aim being to create a beneficial product from what would otherwise be wasted.

Since 2005 we have been taking green waste, collected at the kerb-side from various councils and producing a very useful soil improver. The compost has been spread back on to our farmland, reducing inorganic fertilizer use.

We are currently implementing monitoring systems to enable us to achieve the British Standard PAS100 Specification for composted materials.

We are looking to increase our intake of material and would welcome new suppliers.

We compost the material on a concrete pad and collect run-off in a lined lagoon. This liquid is then added back to the compost to achieve the required moisture content. Incoming vehicles are turned around rapidly and we have our own weighbridge.
